Short at the neck and the sideburn, longer as it climbs. The cut that still looks like a decision three weeks after you had it.

Taper fades in [Mid-City], Los Angeles

Why people move to a taper

A skin fade looks its best on day three and starts arguing with you around day twelve. If you cannot get back into a chair every fortnight, that is a haircut that spends half its life looking neglected.

A taper keeps the weight and only takes the corners down, so the grow-out is gradual instead of a hard line creeping up your head. It is the difference between a cut that needs maintaining and one that just gets longer.

How it goes here

We agree how low the taper sits, whether the sideburn comes to a point or stays square, and what the neck does — blocked, rounded, or tapered out. That last one matters more than people expect. A blocked neck looks sharp for a week and then grows a shelf, and nobody warns you.

Cut with the clipper over comb through the corners rather than straight guard work, which is slower and is the only way it stays soft as it grows.

What it costs

[$40], 45 minutes. Includes the razor line-up, the neck shave and a hot towel. Add a beard for [$20] more.

Between cuts, a line-up at [$20] buys you another week or two without a full cut.

If it is not right

Come back inside seven days and we put it right at no charge. You agreed something in the chair, and if what you walked out with is not it, that is ours to fix, not yours to live with for three weeks.

Book it

A taper holds for three to four weeks, which is why most people on one book monthly.

Call the shop and tell us the day. We will give you the next open chair and the name of the barber in it. Photo on WhatsApp beforehand if you have one.

Open [Tuesday to Saturday]. Walk-ins welcome, and if you call first we will tell you what the wait actually looks like.
