The two lines everybody gets wrong

A beard is mostly two decisions, and both of them are usually made too high. The cheek line set too high leaves a stripe of bare skin that reads as a mistake rather than a choice. The neck line set at the jaw instead of above the Adam's apple makes a full beard look like a chinstrap within a week.

Neither is a matter of taste. They follow the shape of your jaw, and they are the difference between a beard that has been shaped and one that has been attacked.

How it goes here

Both lines are marked and shown to you before a razor touches them. The bulk comes off with the clipper, the shape is cut in with scissors over comb, and the edges go in with a straight razor after a hot towel, which is the only reason the skin underneath does not come up raw.

Balm at the end. If your beard is patchy on the cheek, say so and we will cut around it rather than pretend it is not there.

What it costs

Beard trim [$28], 30 minutes. Shaped, tapered into the cheek line, straight razor edge, hot towel and balm.

Line-up only [$20], 15 minutes. Hairline and beard edges between cuts, in and out on a lunch break.

The Full Service [$75], 75 minutes. Fade, beard, straight razor on the neck and cheeks, hot towel, and a wash before you leave.

If it is not right

Come back inside seven days and we put it right at no charge. You agreed something in the chair, and if what you walked out with is not it, that is ours to fix, not yours to live with for three weeks.

A beard line holds about ten days before the neck starts creeping.

Call the shop and tell us the day. We will give you the next open chair and the name of the barber in it. Photo on WhatsApp beforehand if you have one.
